Our Son's wedding

Well this was the big one for us!

For almost 20 years Something Special Flowers have been delighted to create something special for wedding couples across the country and even overseas on occasion, but never for one of their own offspring!

Words can not explain the feelings when the tables are turned and you are creating for your own son and his bride to be.

The excitement of  being the mother and father of the groom,

The realisation that your eldest child is about to get married and start the next chapter, when it seems like only yesterday that he entered the world in dramatic fashion. (Finlay was 6 weeks early)

Being involved throughout all 12 months of planning planning and determined that this would be as special as any wedding we have been involved with before.

We are fortunate to have not only a wonderful design team but a wonderful family who are not afraid of a little hard work.

Day1: While our design team looked after the home studio and shop, Jillian and I packed our second van like a game of Tetris from back to front and floor to roof. I'ts amasing how much you can get in the back of a Mercedies Vito!

The journey took us from Blairgowrie up the beautiful Snow Road to Ballater and on up to Huntly. From there Aswanley is just a few miles along the road. We started work immediately on arrival, fixing the structures that would be our base for the flowers when they arrived the following day. Yes there was no way all those flowers were going to fit in the Vito and we were eternally grateful to both our fantastic suppliers   J Van Vliet (Zwetzloot) and DVE Flowers who delivered to the venue for us. We have worked with both companies for a long time and are lucky to have both quality of product and customer service like that at our disposal.

Day 2: The flowers having arrived, been conditioned and the floristry began. Paula our niece is currently off on maternity leave but helped out greatly by coming up a few days early  to help with the floristry. Finlay and Hannah were there, along other family members to do the running, water carrying and I have to say that they all at times showed no shortage of design talent also. Design is in the blood? and that good eye for detail shone through.

"What happens when the groom's parents are florists ... an ethereal fireplace like a scene from a fairytale, arrangements so sumptuous you want to reach out to touch them and the most incredible attention to detail.

Something Special Flowers created a truly breathtaking display for Finlay & Hannah's wedding. They worked so hard, with all the family chipping in and always with a smile on their faces - it was a pleasure to have them at Aswanley."
