We are off to Sri Lanka!!
Our lovely Scottish lass Fiona will tie the knot with Indica. Looking after the home front will be Morna and Paula and we have supplemented the team with some top people as support while we are away.
I am not sure what internet connection will be like, but will try to keep you all posted on facebook and If possible will post a blog link. If not see you in 2 weeks.
After a 7 1/2 hour flight to Dubai 2 hour stop over and 4 1/2 hour flight to Colombo (though very well looked after by Emirates airlines), we were feeling a bit jaded and it was a delight to be greeted by Fiona at the airport on our arrival where we boarded our air conditioned coach to our destination of Indika’s family hotel near to Matara town on Sri Lanka’s south coast. As we passed through the rubber plantations towards the coast and bypassed the ramshackle sheds and random cows that wandered the road sides, we could not have envisaged the paradise that lay on the other side of the road side palm trees.
As soon as we put our heads on the pillow we were asleep, missing Evelyn’s birthday and welcome BBQ, but as we found out we had a two week party ahead of us so the sleep was greatly accepted.
Saturday 12th October
A day to settle into our paradise island surroundings and tropical climate of constant temperatures of 28 – 32 degrees day and night.
Sorry again kids but it is too good, not to mention
The ever changing group of family and friends worked long into the night in preparation for the big day.
Thank you! You were all amazing and a great help towards what proved to be a fantastic day.
Monday 14th October
Fiona and Indika’s wedding day!
It was an absolute honour to be able to play a small part in the wedding of Fiona and Indika. This absolute stunning location, set on a hill top surrounded by cinnamon plantations was a joy to behold. Fiona was dressed in traditional Sri Lankan Sari and was led into the venue by Kandian dancers much to the thrill of all her guests. To witness the culture and traditions of this wedding was a dream diversion from our usual Scottish themed weddings at home. It was indeed a humbling experience to be involved.
Tuesday 15th October
Relaxing in the morning sunshine before the flowers arrived for the next official part of the wedding which was Fiona and Insika’s home coming. Here the family of Indika welcomed Fiona’s family and friends to their home which involved more flowers, food and dancing.
The Home Coming.
The Kandian dancers were followed by the elephant which was dressed in all its fineries, closely followed by Indika and Fiona and then all of Fiona’s family and friends who were greeted by Indika’s family and friends as we approached Idika’s family hotel in a procession.
Once fed and watered we danced into the night, despite the monsoon conditions which added to the spectacle and kept us cool blooded Scots from overheating with the exertions of the Sri Lankan Disco.
